Our History

From its Modest Horse and Cart Origins in the 1920's to its Fine Foods Selection in 2010 Cullens Quality Butchers has always had strong commitment to the local area and has been a mainstay of the Wicklow Area for 3 generations.

Established in the 1920's, by William Cullen, using a horse and cart to make deliveries to peoples' homes throughout Wicklow and Brittas Bay. It continued in the 1930's with shops in Bray and Ashford.

By the 1960's William's son Liam took over and expanded the business, at one point having 8 shops throughout Wicklow and Dublin, including outlets in Stillorgan Shopping Centre, Kilbarrack and Rathfarnham.

In the 1980's Liam sold off some of the shops to concentrate on the one in Main Street Wicklow. Then in 2006 Cullens Quality Butchers saw its 3rd generation join the business through Liam's son Robert who oversees the business today. In 2009 Robert completed a major renovation of the store to allow the sale of great new products such as Fresh Fish, local Cheeses and a Range of Ready to Cook Meats!
